Overview: Wild Turkey Rare Breed Bourbon is a highly regarded and unapologetically bold expression of Kentucky bourbon. It's known for its full-bodied character and distinctive flavor profile, making it a favorite among whiskey enthusiasts.
Production: Wild Turkey Rare Breed is crafted with the same time-honored methods that have defined Wild Turkey Bourbon for generations:
Grain Selection: The bourbon's mash bill includes a high percentage of corn, along with rye and malted barley, offering a balance of sweetness and spice.
Mashing: The grains are milled and combined with water to create a mash, which is then fermented.
Fermentation: Wild Turkey uses a proprietary yeast strain for fermentation, contributing to the whiskey's unique flavor.
Distillation: The distillate is distilled to a relatively low proof, allowing more flavor from the grain to carry through to the final product.
Aging: Rare Breed is a blend of bourbons aged for various periods, including 6, 8, and 12 years. The bourbons are aged in new, charred American oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: Wild Turkey Rare Breed Bourbon delivers a robust and complex tasting experience:
Appearance: Deep amber with hints of copper.
Aroma: The nose is rich and inviting, with notes of vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak. A subtle fruitiness and hints of baking spices add depth.
Palate: On the palate, this bourbon is full-bodied and powerful. Flavors of honey, brown sugar, and toffee coat the palate, accompanied by robust oak and spicy rye. There are also hints of dried fruits and a touch of leather.
Finish: The finish is long and warming, with lingering notes of cinnamon, black pepper, and charred oak.
Packaging: Wild Turkey Rare Breed Bourbon typically comes in a distinctive bottle with a turkey emblem on the label, reflecting the brand's heritage.
Serving: This bourbon is perfect for sipping neat or with a drop of water to open up its flavors. Its high proof and bold character also make it an excellent choice for cocktails like the Old Fashioned or the Kentucky Mule.
Conclusion: Wild Turkey Rare Breed Bourbon is a testament to the craftsmanship of the Russell family, who have been making bourbon at Wild Turkey for decades. Its rich, full-bodied character and complex flavor profile have made it a beloved choice for those seeking a robust and authentic Kentucky bourbon experience. Available at Third Base Market & Spirits, this bourbon is a must-try for enthusiasts and connoisseurs looking to explore the bold side of bourbon.
This is a nice one for the money. It comes up with a Christmas cookie nose that shows caramel and vanilla but has some spicy complexity alongside those. Body is light and there is a bit of heat there vut there is lots of complexity and it is an easy sipper.
This Bourbon was the bomb when I tried it a few days ago with my boyfriend. Words cannot describe how tasty it was.
$60 for honey texture. Smooth, sweet, easy drinking neat, with a dab of water. Barrel proof, but not 132 proof. No burn
Bought 3 for backup.
This is just a great, balanced BP bourbon. Was happy to discover it, will always have a bottle on my shelf.
