Complex with an appealing sweetness

What got me most into Stranahan's was trying a couple of the small-batch versions a few years ago. This is my first bottle of their flagship, and it's very appealing. It's not all candy, though it shows plenty of caramel and vanilla. There are subdued spicy notes tucked into the lower layers of flavor, and this would be an easy whiskey to repeat regularly. It's a bit more expensive than many similarly-appealing whiskies from other makers, but the price difference is small enough that it's still worth repeats.

Prefer this Over Most Bourbons

I am usually a Scotch whisky drinker and found this to be more to my liking than most of the Bourbons I have had. It has some of spiciness / pepper flavor of Bourbons that I believe comes from the new oak. My first time trying it I thought it was too much like a Bourbon for my liking. I had it over ice, which is how I have most of my Bourbons. Next time I drank it like a Scotch whisky...neat, and then added a small amount of filtered water....okay, this is good. Not just another Bourbon. It competes with other Scotch whiskys in the same price range. Not as sweet as a Bourbon. Still only 1/4 of the way into the bottle but I am liking this so far. It will depend on mood of the day if I grab this or a different bottle, but a very solid choice. And looking at the other comments, I would agree to NEVER use this as a mixer. This is a very fine sipping whisky. I look forward to trying some of the other offering from this distillery.
