Maker's Mark 101 Proof Bourbon
Maker's is a handy whiskey to order at a place where the bar program is low-effort on the part of the proprietors. If you go check out a band at a club where the bar is just thrown together from a starter kit, they probably have Maker's. It's the Jameson's of the western hemisphere that way--you'd order it on purpose sometimes, anyway, and in a pinch, you're grateful. Anyway, the MM101 is a totally different animal. It's still the big wash of caramel and vanilla you know from those reasonably-priced pours here and there. But bigger-bodied, heavier, more warming, almost a bit oily in the exact right way. The added boost of ABV seems to have magically subtracted the boozy twang of the regular expression, too. I sip everything, but this would work well, no doubt, for cocktails. Very nice for the price.
