When you open the bottle, a rich, deeply involved, dense but characterful sherry whiskey. It took a month to open up inside the container for the "damp leaf," autumn air impressions to emerge out of the balanced yet rigid cloak of malty sherryness and become noticeable to me. A waxy herbaceousness, lacquered conifers, sometimes menthol while breathing in... Worth buying. I wish I had the money for another bottle to compare next year, but that's uni life!
I feel frustrated that no one is noting the Orange notes. I've got a very wide range of "Peated" single malts & this is distinct "Orange-y" to me. Extremely satisfying & delicious. The perfect follow-up to salty & dry peats. I love ending a dram'd evening on this.
Complex, a journey through floral sweetness with peat, settling into a long pineapple finish, then a flash of salt and the sea. Islay whiskey lovers will not find this harsh. It’s a calming, happy dream.
