Overview: Evan Williams 100 Proof Bourbon, available through Third Base Market & Spirits, is a classic Kentucky bourbon renowned for its robust character and exceptional value. This technical description provides an in-depth look at the key characteristics and production processes that make Evan Williams a beloved choice among whiskey enthusiasts.

Ingredients: Evan Williams 100 Proof Bourbon is crafted from premium ingredients, including:

  1. Grains: A grain bill predominantly composed of corn, along with rye and malted barley, contributes to the bourbon's sweet and bold flavor profile.

  2. Yeast: Specially selected yeast strains are used during fermentation to influence the development of unique flavor compounds and the whiskey's overall character.

  3. Water: Kentucky's limestone-filtered water, celebrated for its purity, plays a crucial role in the production, enhancing the whiskey's quality.

Distillation: The production of Evan Williams 100 Proof Bourbon follows a meticulous distillation process:

  1. Milling: Grains are finely milled to create a mash, exposing starches for fermentation.

  2. Mashing: The milled grains are combined with water and heated to create a mash. Enzymes in malted barley facilitate the conversion of starches into fermentable sugars.

  3. Fermentation: The mash is transferred to fermentation tanks, where chosen yeast strains initiate fermentation, typically lasting several days. During this time, yeast converts sugars into alcohol and develops key flavor compounds.

  4. Distillation: The fermented mash undergoes distillation in traditional copper pot stills or column stills, concentrating the alcohol content while separating undesirable elements. The resulting distillate, known as "white dog," is collected and assessed for quality.

Blending and Bottling: Evan Williams 100 Proof Bourbon may involve blending various aged whiskeys to achieve its distinctive profile. Once blended to the desired flavor profile, the whiskey is bottled at a bold 100 proof (50% ABV).

Tasting Notes: Evan Williams 100 Proof Bourbon offers a bold and flavorful tasting experience. Tasting notes may include:

  • Appearance: The bourbon displays a rich amber hue, reflecting its aging and proof.

  • Aroma: The nose is greeted with inviting aromas of caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak, alongside hints of dark fruit, spice, and a subtle nuttiness.

  • Palate: On the palate, expect a robust blend of flavors. Sweet corn, toffee, and butterscotch are complemented by notes of cinnamon, black pepper, and toasted nuts. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and warming.

  • Finish: The finish is medium to long, with lingering notes of caramelized sugar, baking spices, and a gentle warmth, showcasing the bourbon's depth and complexity.

Packaging: Evan Williams 100 Proof Bourbon is typically presented in a classic and straightforward bottle, reflecting its traditional appeal and commitment to delivering a quality bourbon at an approachable price point.

Conclusion: Evan Williams 100 Proof Bourbon stands as a testament to the time-honored traditions of Kentucky bourbon-making. Crafted with precision, utilizing superior ingredients, and bottled at a bold 100 proof, this bourbon offers a robust and flavorful tasting experience. Known for its affordability and reliability, Evan Williams 100 Proof Bourbon is a definitive choice for those seeking an authentic and well-balanced bourbon with a higher proof, making it a beloved staple among whiskey enthusiasts.

Delightful price, have to be in the mood to enjoy the whiskey

It's awfully sweet, and can smell/taste a bit synthetic. I wonder whether that's the "Beam funk" people mention. It's a big sweet blast on the nose, lots of caramel and vanilla, along with some processed-candy type notes and a bit of black licorice. Light body, big sweet candies, some spices in the background that taste a bit synthetic again. After one glass, I was ready to move this one to the pantry for use in steak sauces. I tried it again, and, paying less attention to it and drinking a little faster/sipping much less, it was much easier to drink. Whiskey that tastes better the faster you drink it is probably...not a health tool.
