Overview: Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon, exclusively offered by Third Base Market & Spirits, is a meticulously crafted American whiskey celebrated for its distinctive characteristics and adherence to traditional distillation techniques. This technical description provides comprehensive insights into the key aspects of this remarkable bourbon.

Ingredients: Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon is formulated from a meticulously chosen blend of premium ingredients, which include:

  1. Grains: The grain composition comprises a minimum of 51% corn, along with a balance of rye and malted barley. This amalgamation establishes a solid foundation for flavor development.

  2. Yeast: Proprietary yeast strains are employed during fermentation, catalyzing the conversion of sugars into alcohol and the creation of unique flavor compounds.

  3. Water: The production process relies on pure limestone-filtered water to guarantee uniformity and purity throughout.

Distillation: The production of Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon undergoes a rigorous and systematic distillation process:

  1. Milling: Grains are finely ground to expose their starches, making them ready for fermentation.

  2. Mashing: Milled grains are combined with water and heated to create a mash. Enzymes in malted barley convert starches into fermentable sugars.

  3. Fermentation: The mash is transferred to fermentation tanks where yeast is introduced to initiate fermentation, which can extend over several days. During this period, the yeast consumes sugars, producing alcohol and developing distinct flavor compounds.

  4. Distillation: The fermented mash is carefully distilled in either copper pot stills or column stills to concentrate alcohol content and separate undesirable compounds. The distillate is collected and meticulously assessed for quality.

Aging: A defining characteristic of Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon is its extensive aging process:

  1. Barrel Selection: The distillate is placed in new charred oak barrels. Notably, Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon prides itself on an exclusive barrel selection process, ensuring each batch's unparalleled quality.

  2. Warehouse Aging: Barrels are stored in rickhouses (warehouses) where they undergo aging. Temperature fluctuations and interaction with charred oak wood contribute distinctive flavors and complexity.

  3. Aging Duration: Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon matures for a minimum of four years, allowing it to develop its signature taste profile.

Bottling and Proofing: Following aging, the bourbon is diligently monitored and sampled to determine the ideal proof and flavor profile for each batch. It is then proofed down to 94-proof (47% alcohol by volume) using pure limestone-filtered water.

Packaging: Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon is elegantly presented in a unique bottle, proudly displaying its premium quality and heritage.

Conclusion: Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon, available exclusively through Third Base Market & Spirits, exemplifies a harmonious fusion of time-honored craftsmanship, judiciously selected ingredients, precise distillation, and patient aging. Its technical excellence results in a bourbon renowned for its rich, complex flavor profile, cementing its status as a benchmark in American whiskey production.

Excellent value for a very sippable bourbon

I tend to expect a lot of vanilla with these lower-priced Elijahs, but this is more on the caramel/nutty side, with some chocolate and coffee showing. Very popular choice with company; people seem to drain off my bartop even before I do. Doesn't show much heat, nor much body. It has plenty of character for the price without a doubt, and no real flaws. It's an impressive value without a doubt.

Going with the majority

Really enjoyable. One drop of spring water cools the hot and enhances the flavors.

Wonderful Sipper

This is a great bourbon, although it is a shame that the distillery stopped calling this bottle 12 year bourbon three years ago. It tastes like a more expensive bourbon with a nice finish.
