Aberlour Casg Annamh, a beacon of Scotch whisky craftsmanship, hails from the iconic Aberlour Distillery situated in the heart of Scotland’s illustrious Speyside region. "Casg Annamh" translates to "rare cask" in Gaelic, setting the tone for a whisky steeped in heritage yet trailblazing in its approach. This No Age Statement (NAS) expression primarily matures in a trio of cask types: European oak sherry casks, American oak sherry casks, and American oak bourbon barrels, resulting in an extraordinarily layered and balanced profile. With an impressive ABV of 48%, it retains a robustness that complements its complexity. This exceptional whisky is now available for exclusive purchase at Third Base Market & Spirits, a sanctuary for true whisky devotees.
The whisky showcases a robust amber hue, infused with deep golden glints—a visual testament to its intricate maturation process.
Aberlour Casg Annamh greets the olfactory senses with an inviting medley of spiced orange, dried apricots, and honey. Underneath these primary scents lie intriguing nuances of ginger, cinnamon, and a hint of floral oakiness.
Upon sipping, a rich tapestry of flavors unfolds: initial notes of succulent sultanas and apricots are finely balanced by a resurgence of spices and dark chocolate. The whisky's sherry-infused character reveals itself in sumptuous layers of red fruit and nutmeg, elegantly rounded off by sweet, creamy vanilla.
The finish is opulent yet nuanced, leaving a lingering impression of spiced oak, toffee, and a smidgen of dried fruit. The aftertaste continually evolves, offering a multifaceted, drawn-out ending that perfectly encapsulates its rich complexity.
This whisky is sufficiently versatile to be the centerpiece of various culinary pairings. Its robust character complements the rich, meaty dishes of traditional Scottish cuisine, such as haggis or beef stew. Additionally, its nuanced layers make it an ideal counterpart to an artisanal cheese board featuring strong, mature cheeses.
Aberlour Casg Annamh serves as a veritable homage to both tradition and innovation, encapsulating the essence of Speyside in each sip. Its complexity and robustness make it a remarkable addition to any whisky collection, seasoned or nascent. Your gateway to this sensory experience is none other than Third Base Market & Spirits.
Very much an after dinner scotch. The deeper the armchair and the taller the library shelves, the better. Sweet and spicy nose, like a plate mixed with warm fresh spice cookies and lightly frosted cookies. Phenols and sherry barrels conjuring a concoction. Medium, lightly oily body, toasty malts, and then more sweet and savory treats. Couldn't do this dram after dram but in the right frame of mind it's a delight.
