Tasting Notes and Technical Description:

Visual Appearance:
The whisky reveals a pale golden hue, hinting at its lighter and more delicate characteristics compared to its malted barley counterparts.

Nose (Aroma):
A sensory journey begins with an elegant and aromatic nose characterized by subtle nuances of melon, floral essences, and a touch of honey. The fragrance is reminiscent of a spring garden, indicative of its botanical origins and meticulous distillation.

Palate (Taste):
Kikori offers a multi-dimensional experience on the palate. The initial sweetness of ripe fruit, most notably apple and pear, is complemented by notes of vanilla and almond. The unique aspect here is a noticeable but not overwhelming umami undertone, a distinct savoriness attributable to its rice base.

Finish:
The finish is crisp and clean, with a mild spiciness that segues into a lingering note of fresh mint and a fleeting touch of oak. This whisky leaves behind a refreshing aftertaste, devoid of any cloying sweetness or overpowering heat.

Mouthfeel:
The texture is remarkably smooth and almost silky, making it a pleasant sipper that doesn't demand a chaser or dilution, although it pairs exceptionally well with a range of mixers for those interested in cocktail exploration.

Third Base Market & Spirits Perspective:

Kikori Japanese Whisky is an example of innovation in a bottle. It is an excellent entry point for those new to Japanese whisky and a curious divergence for the seasoned enthusiast. Its versatility in cocktails and its layered flavor profile make it a must-have for anyone interested in the breadth of experiences that Japanese whiskies can offer.

Availability:
This exquisite bottle is available in limited quantities due to its unique production and high demand. We recommend acting promptly to secure a bottle, as it is a compelling addition to any whisky collection, both for its distinctiveness and the artisanal quality it represents.

In conclusion, Kikori Japanese Whisky challenges traditional whisky norms with its rice-based formulation and complex flavor profile. Whether you are a seasoned connoisseur or a whisky newcomer, Kikori promises a gustatory exploration that bridges the familiar and the exotic, making it a commendable and compelling addition to your repertoire.

I should have realized how light this would be

It's mild, soft, and subtly sweet from top to bottom. Now that I actually read the description, I see that it's aimed at newcomers to whiskey. Well, okay--mission accomplished. This is the least-intimidating whiskey I've had in a while. Soft woody notes, bits of nuts and coconut. Mildly toasty, then there's a warming vinous hit from the sherry. Can you really fault this whiskey for being exactly what it set out to be? Not at all! Mission accomplished, total bullseye for the stated goal (pleasant, easygoing whiskey for noobs). You can't get mad at this whiskey even for a second, and you're also safe from the risk of yelling at your buddies across the room to come try a sip. It's fine, just unexciting.
