Ran through a long list of scotch whiskeys while working in Scotland--a large part outdoors-- one long winter years ago. First time whiskey-- of any kind-- made sense: in that cold, dark, cloudy/rainy winter. Back in the U.S. my whiskey preferences narrowed, driven by price and availability. Ran into Oban again and drinking it reminded me why I liked it in the first place: it was just pleasant to drink. Not a test of manhood or of refined taste that could, say, identify the exact Scotland bog that yielded the peat that defined its character. Was delighted when found out that Third Base carried it and at a reasonable price (compared to what I could find elsewhere for it or any number of other imported Scotch whiskeys). The delivery was really fast even though I'm on the other side of the continent. Impressive service. Favorite whiskey arrived in well executed protective packaging. These guys know what they're doing.
