The nose on this lit up with a touch of solvent-y or acetone notes. I don't think I've ever been able to enjoy a whiskey this much after such a rough time picking up the scents of it. Chocolate and black pepper on the palate, with some heavy caramel as well. Easy enough to enjoy once you're tasting it. I'm becoming a Balcones fan for sure but this one isn't the show-stopper some of their others are.

Not for me
This rye got some great reviews from people I trust, and I bet it's great for those that like this unique flavor. I love Texas, but I just don't like their whiskey as I've tried a few.
A couple of times a year my wife and I splurge on a high-end scotch. We've tried everything we can afford in the Dalmore line, including their 18 year, and we think the 15 year is far and away the best. It's mellow and buttery; just an exquisite experience. For the money, you can't beat the Dalmore 15.
