Tasting Notes and Technical Description:

Visual Appearance: Pouring this bourbon into a glass reveals a sumptuous, deep mahogany color, tinged with dark amber highlights. The visual richness is a clear indication of its extended aging period. Thick, slow-moving legs form on the sides of the glass, hinting at the spirit's oily texture and high concentration of flavors.

Nose (Aroma): The nose is an inviting and complex tapestry of aromas. Predominant are notes of dark cherry, caramel, and vanilla, underscored by more subtle aromas of leather, tobacco, and charred oak. Hints of spice like cinnamon and nutmeg add layers of complexity, providing a warming balance to the sweetness.

Palate (Taste): Upon the first sip, Calumet Single Rack Black 14 Year demonstrates why it is an exemplar of aged bourbon. The mouthfeel is remarkably silky and the initial taste offers a robust blend of dark fruit—think blackberries and dried plums—followed by an interplay of caramel and vanilla sweetness. Mid-palate evolves into an elegant array of spices, chiefly cinnamon and black pepper, which are harmoniously interwoven with the sweeter elements.

Finish: The finish is long, warm, and extraordinarily satisfying. It starts with a lingering sweetness and gradually shifts towards more earthy and woody tones. The oak influence is present but never overwhelming, and a faint, final hint of dark chocolate makes for a truly indulgent finish.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is rich, full-bodied, and almost buttery, owing to its long maturation and carefully controlled aging conditions. Despite its high ABV, the alcohol is well integrated, making for a smooth and enriching sipping experience.

Third Base Market & Spirits Perspective:

Calumet Single Rack Black 14 Year is a bourbon for the true connoisseur, highly respected and featured in our American whiskey selections at Third Base Market & Spirits. Its age statement of 14 years makes it quite rare in the world of bourbon, where extended aging can often result in excessive oakiness; this expression, however, masters the art of balance. It's a sophisticated bottle well-suited for special occasions or as a treasured addition to a collector’s shelf.

Pairing Suggestions: The rich and complex flavor profile lends itself well to equally robust food pairings. Consider enjoying this bourbon alongside a charcuterie board filled with aged cheeses and smoked meats, or even as an accompaniment to a rich, dark chocolate dessert.

Availability: Due to its age and limited production, Calumet Single Rack Black 14 Year is not always easy to find. At Third Base Market & Spirits, we strive to keep this exclusive bottle in stock but recommend seizing the opportunity to purchase when available.

In summation, Calumet Single Rack Black 14 Year Old Bourbon is a masterclass in bourbon aging and blending. From the complexity of its nose to the intricacies of its palate and the satisfaction of its long finish, it promises a multifaceted drinking experience. Whether you're a bourbon enthusiast or a seasoned whiskey collector, this expression offers a rare chance to explore the remarkable nuances that extended aging can bring to this quintessentially American spirit.

Great value for this age statement and it stands up to it well!! 19 barrels

Very smooth not going to start the craze but it is impressive when you drink it neat instead of water or a cube. Others for me can do it both ways but neat with this for me with no burn. My 1st bottle arrived, and I immediately order 2 more. Very nice cheers everyone!!!

Very smooth for decent price

I am not a whiskey expert so I can only say if I like it or not. Everybody tastes things differently. This brew is very smooth at about half of what I have paid before.

I do not want to to start a next " holy grail whiskey" but this is a good , well priced whiskey that has not had it's wagon jumped on.
