Overview: Basil Hayden's Bourbon is a distinguished expression of straight bourbon whiskey, celebrated for its smoothness, spicy notes, and Kentucky heritage. Produced in Clermont, Kentucky, this technical description provides insights into the key characteristics and meticulous production that make Basil Hayden's Bourbon a cherished choice among bourbon enthusiasts.

Ingredients: Basil Hayden's Bourbon is crafted from premium ingredients, including:

  1. Grains: A blend of corn, rye, and malted barley forms the bourbon's mash bill, contributing to its unique flavor profile with a higher proportion of rye.

Distillation and Aging: The production process of Basil Hayden's Bourbon follows traditional methods:

  1. Milling and Mashing: The grains are finely milled, and the resulting grist is mashed to create a sugary liquid known as wort. This wort is fermented to produce a wash with the desired alcohol content.

  2. Fermentation: The wash is transferred to fermentation tanks, where specific yeast strains initiate fermentation. This process typically lasts several days, allowing yeast to convert sugars into alcohol and develop key flavor compounds.

  3. Distillation: The fermented wash undergoes double distillation in copper pot stills or column stills, capturing the essence of the bourbon. The resulting new make spirit is carefully collected and assessed for quality.

Aging: Basil Hayden's Bourbon is aged in new, charred American white oak barrels for a period typically ranging from 6 to 8 years. This aging process allows the bourbon to mature and develop its smooth character.

Tasting Notes: Basil Hayden's Bourbon offers a distinctive and flavorful tasting experience. Tasting notes may include:

  • Appearance: The bourbon has a golden amber hue, reflecting its time spent maturing in oak barrels.

  • Aroma: The nose is greeted with inviting aromas of caramel, vanilla, and a hint of dried fruit, complemented by subtle notes of peppermint and spicy rye.

  • Palate: On the palate, expect a well-balanced and smooth flavor profile. Sweet caramel and honey are met with spicy rye, black pepper, and a touch of cinnamon. The mouthfeel is light and silky.

  • Finish: The finish is warm and lingering, with a gentle spiciness that enhances the overall complexity of the bourbon. There's a subtle hint of mint on the finish, adding a refreshing touch.

Packaging: Basil Hayden's Bourbon is typically presented in an elegant bottle and labeling, reflecting its premium quality and the tradition of Kentucky bourbon production.

Conclusion: Basil Hayden's Bourbon, available through Third Base Market & Spirits, stands out as a refined and approachable expression of Kentucky bourbon craftsmanship. Crafted with precision, characterized by its higher rye content, and aged for a considerable duration, this bourbon provides a smooth and flavorful tasting experience. Renowned for its balance, spice, and Kentucky bourbon heritage, Basil Hayden's Bourbon remains a cherished choice for bourbon enthusiasts seeking a sophisticated and versatile American whiskey expression for various occasions.

A classic for a reason

This is a very mild-mannered bourbon, but beautifully made. It was quite the center of debate at a cigars and whiskey party at my place this weekend; the guy who brought it loves it for its simple elegance and comforting familiarity. He likes the movie line "bourbon tastes like a warm summer day," and puts this bottle top of mind when he hears that line. Another guy calls this "the pilsner of bourbon"--simple and clean, refreshing when you're in the mood for it, but you're often in the mood for something more complex. Everybody tried it as a sipper. For me, I loved it, and appreciate getting to keep the last few pours on my bar. It's got the vanilla, shortbread, and almonds, with a light touch of caramel and apricot. It's so easy to enjoy, with or without thinking about it.

My go to whiskey

No greed here just a solid whiskey at an honest price. They could easily charge twice as much for this .
